This year we are introducing ‘The Willows 100 Reads’. The aim of this list is to get families excited about reading and sharing stories together. We know that reading for pleasure has a huge impact on both the success and well-being of the children.
What is the ‘The Willows 100 Reads?’
At The Willows, we have created a list of engaging, inspiring and diverse books for the children to enjoy throughout their time here. The 100 books are spilt into chunks of 25, for each different age category to complete.
There are four different lists: Nursery & Reception, Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6. If you feel that the year group list is not appropriate for your child please speak to your child’s class teacher to obtain an alternative list. The books are all available in school and will also be available in the local libraries too!
This challenge should span across your child’s time at The Willows and we would not expect the majority of the children to complete the challenge until Year 6.
Where can you find the lists?
The Early Years (Nursery & Reception) and Key Stage One (Years 1 & 2) children will be provided with their relevant year group list along with their reading diaries. The list for Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) children will be kept in school with their reading logs and the children will be expected to complete the associated Accelerated Reader quiz before ticking the book off their list.
What are the children working towards?
We hope that the children enjoy the books we have chosen and that these help to further develop their love of reading. The children will be working towards different milestones.
Each time your child reads 5 books on their year group list they will receive a certificate. If your child successfully reads all of their group list books they will be able to choose a prize book to take home.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Mrs Jones and Miss Richardson
